Dan Sumption studied photography at Richmond upon Thames College in 1987, then pursued photography as a hobby for many years before turning professional in 2005. He also took an intensive course in photojournalism at the London School of Photography in 2006.
In between times, he helped to found one of the UK's first web design agencies, Hard Reality, which was subsequently sold to advertising agency Leo Burnett in 1998. After three years working as Interaction Director within Leo Burnett, he left to co-found the creative agency Mark and Dan with Mark Westall in 2001. Mark and Dan also publish FAD magazine.
His photographs have been exhibited at the Format photography festival in Derby, The Washington in Sheffield (solo show) and as part of the group show Transition at Keighley Arts Factory and Open Up Sheffield & South Yorkshire 2007.
His photojournalism has appeared in publications as diverse as The Mail on Sunday, Hello!, Vice and FAD. He has written articles for Campaign, Revolution! and .net magazine.
He holds a BA honours in Psychology from the University of Bristol.
He lives in Sheffield (having emigrated from London in 1998), with his wife, two children, and (at present) one foster child.
